Meet the Cohort

Emily Day Hoang is pursuing a degree in the Masters of Public Administration and Masters of International Education Management programs at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. She graduated from Middlebury College in 2015 with a degree in Comparative Literature and Arabic. Emily is passionate about social justice, racial equity, and education. She’s particularly interested in the nexus of education and development, education in emergency and conflict contexts, and the role of higher education in post-conflict recovery. She calls Los Angeles home.

Adam Schreiber began studying a Masters in Public Administration at the Middlebury Institute in January of 2019. He attended Middlebury College and completed his undergraduate degree in 2014 with a major in International and Global Studies. He then spent three years living in Chicago while working as a case manager at a nonprofit serving homeless youth and families. More recently, he spent a year in Madrid working as an ESL teacher. Originally from Denver, CO he enjoys cooking, being outside, listening to his favorite podcasts, and exploring/getting lost in new places. 

Nina Cruz is a junior at Middlebury and will spend the fall of 2019 studying in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is majoring in math, but was interested in branching out this summer and exploring social impact work. She is a member of the Middlebury College swimming and diving team. She is from Grand Junction, CO and loves to bake, enjoy the sunshine and spend time with her goldendoodle Peet!

Mollie Blount Smith is a senior at Middlebury College. She is a Sociology and Anthropology major with a Global Health minor and is a member of the women’s lacrosse team (which won this year’s Division 3 National Championship!). She is from Marblehead, MA, a small seaside town just north of Boston. She loves to go on runs, cook, and hang out at the beach.

Jayla Johnson is a junior at Middlebury College, majoring in Political Science and Spanish. She hails from the Southside of Chicago and had never visited California before this summer. After completing the MSIC internship, she traveled to Costa Rica to spend three weeks participating in Middlebury’s Team4Tech program. She enjoys playing volleyball, running, reading, and working towards social justice.

Ben Yamron is a junior at Middlebury College, majoring in Latin American Studies with a focus in Sociology and Anthropology. He calls Sudbury, Massachusetts home and is a member of the Middlebury College swimming and diving team. He will spend the fall of 2019 studying abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay and looks forward to improving both his Spanish and Portuguese.
